FLAWED

FLAWED

Bible: Genesis 27:6-23

My power is made perfect in weakness
(2 CORINTHIANS 12:9).

Reading

An actor once said he enjoyed playing “flawed” characters in movies because people relate better to characters with problems and issues. Most of us would agree that we’re not perfect and we can feel uncomfortable being around those who seem to have it ‘all together’ (or who pretend to at
the very least).

God included stories in the Bible of people who were liars, weak, made mistakes and got angry. Take Jacob, for example; he lied to his father (GENESIS 27:1-29). Then there was Gideon, who was so unsure of God that he asked Him twice for proof that He would be faithful to do what He said
(JUDGES 6:39). And then there’s Peter, who for fear of his own safety, denied even knowing Jesus, his friend and Saviour (MARK 14:66-72).

But when we read the rest of their stories, we can see that these people were able, with God’s help, to overcome their shortcomings and ultimately be useful to Him. That happened when they depended not on themselves but on God.

Just like the people who lived thousands of years ago, each of us comes with flaws. But by God’s love and grace we can overcome those things by relying on His “power [which] is made perfect in weakness” (2 CORINTHIANS 12:9).

Thinking it over . . .

What do you think it means for God’s power to be “made perfect in weakness”? What might it look like for you to trust your problems and flaws to God each day?
