It’s been more than sixty years since Brother Andrew first smuggled Bibles into anti-Christian countries. But he didn’t just become brave overnight. His confidence in God, especially in very dangerous places, grew over time. David was out looking after his dad’s sheep when the prophet Samuel anointed him as God’s chosen king of Israel (1 SAMUEL 16:12-13), but it took years of training before he became one of the nation’s greatest rulers. His first public test ended in that famous victory over the giant Goliath (17:49-50), but other challenges had also helped prepared him to fully trust God. King Saul doubted David’s ability against a man who’d “been a warrior from his youth” (V.33). But David promised Saul that his ability to protect his dad’s sheep against predators had prepared him for the fight against the giant who was challenging God’s people (VV.34-36). He confidently said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine” (V.37). God brings training days into our lives to prepare us for what lies ahead. Let’s press on and grow in our trust in Him.

GOD IS ALWAYS TRAINING US FOR
THE CHALLENGES THAT LIE AHEAD.
