A Changed man

A Changed man

Bible:1 John 1:5-10

He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness (V.9).

Reading

One night, when John Wesley (1703-1791) was travelling on horseback, a robber jumped in front of the horse and grabbed the bridle. Wesley gave the few coins in his pockets to the thief, and even allowed the man to search through his saddlebags for more. As the robber left, Wesley said, “Stop! I have something more to give you!” Saying that one day the robber might regret his actions, John Wesley quoted 1 John 1:7: “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin!”
Wesley quoted from the first letter of the ageing disciple John, who wrote to a divided church where some said that Jesus hadn’t died for the forgiveness of sins. John explained that “God is light” (1 JOHN 1:5) and that we cannot walk in darkness while claiming to walk in truth (V.6). Only when we admit our sins will God forgive us and “purify us from all unrighteousness” (V.9). Years after the robbery, the thief realised he needed a rescue and he chose to trust Jesus for himself. The changed man walked up to John Wesley after a church service, saying, “I owe it all to you.” John Wesley quickly replied, “Oh no, my friend! Not to me, but to the precious blood of Jesus!”
No matter what we’ve done wrong, from stealing to gossip to envy or something else, we can be forgiven and made brand new through Jesus’ sacrifice.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANS US FROM OUR SIN.
