Ignoring God

Ignoring God

Bible: Psalm 63:1-8

Reading

Be very careful to keep the commandment . . . to love the Lord your God, to
walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him
                                                       (JOSHUA 22:5).

A school teacher once told me about his biggest fear in his job: that he’d stand up in front of a class and no one would pay him any attention. He always worried that the students at school would start ignoring him one day, not listening to a word he was saying. We all hate being ignored. When we’re chatting with a friend, it hurts if they suddenly get distracted by someone else and wander off to talk to them instead. It’s upsetting to feel like people aren’t that bothered by what we have to say.
Imagine, then, how God must feel. He has given us unlimited access to talk with Him whenever, wherever. Yet so often we ignore what He has to say. Even though He lives in us through His Holy Spirit, we act like He’s nowhere nearby. Even though He speaks to us through the Bible, we hardly
ever pick it up to read. Let’s be careful not to ignore God. In big and small ways, let’s keep Him in our thoughts moment by moment. We can do this by setting aside regular time to read the Bible, by having a constant conversation with Him during our days, by spending time reflecting on who He is and by going to church and Bible studies. May we be able to say to Him, “I cling to you; your right
hand upholds me” (PSALM 63:8).
