Trust Me
Bible: 1 Kings 17:7-16
Do not worry about tomorrow (MATTHEW 6:34).
After I left college, I had a low-paying job. I didn’t have a lot of money, and sometimes I didn’t even have enough for my next meal. I learned to trust God to give me what I needed each day.
It reminded me of Elijah. He also learned to trust God to give him what he needed. Shortly after Elijah shared that God was sending a drought in Israel as a judgement on them, God sent him to a deserted place, Kerith Ravine. Whilst there, He told Elijah to drink from the brook and He used the ravens to bring Elijah his daily meals (1 KINGS 17:1-4).
But then the brook shrank to a tiny stream, and slowly became no more than a trickle. It was only when the brook had dried up that God said: “Go at once to Zarephath … I have instructed a widow there to supply you with food” (V.9). Zarephath was in Phoenicia, home of some of Israel’s enemies. Would anyone offer Elijah a place to stay? And would a poor widow have
food to share with him?
Most of us would rather God gave us everything we’ll need ahead of tough times, not during them. But God often gives us just enough for each day. He wants us to trust Him and come to Him to meet our needs every day. Just as He used ravens and a widow to help Elijah, nothing is
impossible for Him. We can count on His love and power to give us what we need each day.
What I’m Thankful for…
Faithful Father, thank You for knowing exactly what we need before we even ask. Help us to trust You for our daily needs.
