Terror
Bible: Psalm 59
You are my fortress, my [shelter] in times of trouble (V.16).
In November 2008 Mumbai and the whole of India was left devastated by the terror attack on various parts of Mumbai. The bombs and coordinated shootings were carried out and for 4 days the city was plunged in terror and fear. 175 people were killed and over 300 were injured in this attack.
It is really scary to think that terrorist attacks like this can happen anytime, anywhere. It can feel like no one is safe.
The Bible tells us that our safety doesn’t come from security guards, the police or even our parents. It is found in God Himself. The book of Psalms talks about hiding in God more than forty times! Many of these references came from King David’s own experience of being hunted and attacked by his enemies. In his prayers for help, he focused all His confidence on God: “You are my fortress, my [shelter] in times of trouble.
You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely” (PSALM 59:16-17). Trusting God doesn’t mean He’ll always keep us from difficulty or physical danger. But He does promise to be always with us as our security and shelter in every situation. In Him we find real strength and confidence. There is nothing greater than our God! We belong to Him and only He, not the terrors of this world, has all power.
SAFETY IS FOUND IN TRUSTING EACH DAY TO GOD.
