Rushing Waters
His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters (V.15).
Revelation 1:9-17
Reading
While in Southern India, I went to see Coutrallam Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in India. It was massive and amazing! But what impressed me most at Coutrallam was not the look of it or the spray of the water. It was the sound. The sound was deafening—I felt as if I was actually inside the sound itself. It made me feel very small in comparison.
Later, with this in mind, I couldn’t help but think about John in Revelation 1:15. While on the island of Patmos, he saw a vision of Jesus. John gave a powerful description of Jesus as he saw Him as He really is. One of the things he said was that Jesus’ “voice was like the sound of rushing waters” (V.15).
I’m not sure I fully understood what that meant until I visited this waterfall and was deafened by its thundering sound. As those mighty waters reminded me of my own smallness, I better understood why John fell at the feet of Christ as if dead (V.17).
Maybe that description will help you think about the awesomeness of being with Jesus—and lead you to follow John’s example of worshipping Him with everything you’ve got!
To Pray About…
Jesus, You are amazing and awesome and above my understanding. Help me to think about the description of You in Revelation so that I’ll want to worship You more and more.
