Why Me?
The secret things belong to the Lord our God (DEUTERONOMY 29:29).
Psalm 131
Reading
Recently I read Psalm 131, one of my favourite psalms. I’ve often thought it was there to remind me not to “concern myself with great matters of things too wonderful for me” (V.1). Mystery is just a part of God’s character and I’ll never fully understand Him—but that’s OK. But then I saw another side of it: I am unable to understand all that God is doing in me, and it is impossible to try.
In Psalm 131, David compares himself to a “calmed”, weaned child that no longer cries out in need (V.2). It is a challenge for us to learn humility, patience and trust in God for everything we will go through.
I often ask, “What’s going on God? Why do I have to go through this? Why me?” I think God answers, “You wouldn’t understand if I explained it to you. Just trust Me!”
So, having read Psalm 131 again, I am left asking myself: Can I, no matter what I am going through, “hope in the Lord” and trust Him? (V.3). What about you? Can you wait in patience without worrying and questioning God’s goodness? Can you trust Him while He works out His plan in you?
IN A CONFUSING WORLD, IT’S A COMFORT TO KNOW THE GOD WHO KNOWS ALL THINGS.
