A NEW DAY

A NEW DAY

Bible: Psalm 118:19-29
This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad
in it (V.24, NKJV).

Reading

In a recent church service, the person who opened the meeting began by praying, “Lord, thanks for today. It is the beginning of a new day we have never seen before.” Although the idea seemed obvious, that prayer got me thinking about a couple of different things. Firstly, because each day is a new opportunity, it will be filled with things we cannot know are coming or even plan for. So it’s important that we realise our limits and rely heavily on God—actively choosing to live in His love and strength rather than hoping we can do enough on our own.

The second thing I thought is that the newness of each day is a gift worth celebrating. Perhaps this idea is what made the psalmist say, “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (PSALM 118:24, NKJV).

Of course we face many unknowns today—and some could be difficult. However, the gift of each brand new day is so special that Moses was led to write, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (PSALM 90:12). Every new day is a gift. May we thankfully take hold of each one with confident trust and celebration.

Thinking it over . . .

What attitude are you going to have today? How does knowing today is a gift from God change the way you view the things that are going to happen?

EACH NEW DAY GIVES US NEW REASONS
TO PRAISE GOD.
