SOMETHING TO DECLARE

SOMETHING TO DECLARE

Bible: Matthew 5:13-16
Let your light shine before others (V.16).

It was just a normal baggage inspection at the airport, but there was nothing ordinary about what was inside the suitcase. The Swiss customs agent who examined it discovered fourteen original drawings by Pablo Picasso. The artwork, which was hidden in a sketchbook, was estimated to be worth a fortune, yet the passenger said “nothing to declare” to customs
authorities.

It’s hard to imagine anyone packing Picasso’s sketchbook between sweaters, heading off to the airport and hoping it would stay a secret. The man was obviously smuggling it.

We as Christians have something far more valuable than a Picasso to declare! Yet we sometimes keep the truth of our trust in Jesus hidden instead of sharing it with those around us. Jesus reminded us, “You are the light of the world” (MATTHEW 5:14). Part of our purpose is to show God’s love and ways so that others will understand their need for Him. He also tells us
to let our light shine, so that they see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (V.16).

We risk becoming spiritual smugglers when we hide our life with Jesus. Instead, let’s open the ‘suitcase’, share the treasure and give thanks to God.

To pray about . . .

Father, help me to be clear about my love of You and
trust in You so that others will see what it looks like to
belong safely to Jesus.

A WORD WELL CHOSEN CAN OPEN A PERSON UP
TO KNOWING GOD.
