GREAT IS YOUR REWARD

Many supermarkets and online shopping sites have ‘loyalty points’ that offer rewards when you spend enough money. You can build up these rewards each time you buy something. And then you can spend them on all sorts of things, like eating out, going to the cinema and more shopping!

God has a rewards scheme as well. Jesus often talked about how He wanted to reward us for loyally serving Him. When we are made fun of because of Him, for example, He says to “rejoice . . . for great is your reward in heaven” (MATTHEW 5:12, NKJV). As a total opposite to the religious leaders who did good things and gave away lots of money just to be seen, Jesus told us to do these things privately, because “your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (6:4,6,18, NKJV). When it comes to living for Jesus, no matter what it may cost, our faithfulness to Him will always be worth the rewards.

Yet we don’t serve Jesus for the rewards. When He died for us on the cross, He did far more for us than we deserve. Loyalty to Him shows our thankfulness for His love towards us. In return, He loves to encourage us with the promise that His rewards will outweigh whatever we have given up
for Him.

Live for Jesus—no matter the cost. JS

Father, when I am struggling to do the right thing and stay close to You, help me remember how much better life, and the future, is with You.
