ATTRACTING THE LOST

ATTRACTING THE LOST

Bible: 2 Corinthians 5:12-21
I have come into the world as a light. (JOHN 12:46)

My friend Anna often finds that people stop her on the street and ask for directions. This has happened to her even in countries where she’s a foreigner. She wonders if it’s because she has an honest face and looks trustworthy. I suggested that perhaps it’s because she looks as if she knows
where she’s going. Another friend said that maybe she attracts the lost.

All of those things should be true of God’s people. As Christians, we have purpose and direction, we know where we’re going, and we know how to get there. This gives us confidence as we go about our lives trusting God and following Him. When this kind of confidence is obvious to others, those who still don’t know Jesus will start to look to us for direction.

God has always made Himself known so that people could find Him. In the Old Testament, He did this through the people of Israel (ISAIAH 42:6). Then Solomon prayed that God’s great name would draw people to Himself (1 KINGS 8:41-43). God has been made known best through His Son, Jesus, “the light of the world” (JOHN 9:5). Now, followers of Jesus are to be that light of
the world (MATTHEW 5:14). As we do life, we need to let God make Himself known through us (how we talk, act and treat people). Are we showing lost people the way back to God (2 CORINTHIANS 5:18)?

IF PEOPLE ARE ASKING US FOR LIFE DIRECTIONS,
LET’S TELL THEM JESUS IS THE WAY!
