WINGS LIKE A DOVE

WINGS LIKE A DOVE

Bible: Psalm 55:4-22

Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be
at rest (Psalm 55:6).

Reading

David sighed, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest” (PSALM 55:6). When life gets too much or we’ve messed up, we can think something similar: I wish I could just escape from here and start again!

David wrote freely about the problems he faced: he was being attacked, hated and laughed at from all sides. And it had all been started by an old friend (55:8-14)! Fear and terror, pain and trembling, anxiety and stress took over (VV.4-5). Is it any wonder he wanted to just disappear?
But escape was impossible. He could not hide from his life. He could only give his problems to God: “As for me, I call to God, and the LORD saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice” (VV.16-17).

Whatever our trouble—family problems, loneliness, bullying, poor grades—we can give them to God. He has saved us from sin and death; will He not also lift the weight of our current problems? We have trusted Him with our souls; can we not trust Him with everything else? “Cast your
burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you” (55:22).

To pray about . . .

God, You know I often wish I could just escape and start over in life. Please help me to trust You and Your perfect plan. I know my life is in Your hands. Please lead me in the way I should go and keep my eyes fixed on Your promises to me.

BECAUSE GOD CARES ABOUT US, WE CAN LEAVE
OUR CARES WITH HIM.
