THE ANSWER TO FEAR

THE ANSWER TO FEAR

Bible: Psalm 34:1-10

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered
me from all my fears (Psalm 34:4).

Everyone is scared of something. There are lots of things which can make us nervous, from spiders to speaking in public. And then there are things which are just downright terrifying, like the thought of dying, losing loved ones or being rejected.

Fear often shows up in our lives when we are at risk of losing something—our health, our popularity at school, safety, family, friends. It shows our instinct is to protect the things in life that are important to us, rather than fully trusting them to God’s care and control. When fear takes over, it closes us up to the people around us. We’re afraid to tell others about Jesus, to use
our lives to love others or to face up to important challenges. When we’re scared, we’re more open to being misled by the devil, who keeps telling us to give up on God and to take matters into our own hands.

But the only answer to fear is trusting our Creator. Only when we rely on the reality of God’s power, protection and provision for our lives can we share the joy of the psalmist, who said, “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears” (PSALM 34:4).

TRUSTING IN GOD WILL MAKE US BRAVE WHEN
THINGS ARE SCARY
