SLACKER?
Bible: Proverbs 6:6-11
How long will you lie there, you
sluggard? (Proverbs 6:9).
Reading
During a Bible study of Proverbs, one person suggested that we change the description of a lazy person from a “sluggard” (6:6,9) to a “slacker”. The term “slacker” makes much more sense today. We all know people who don’t seem to put much effort in and who never keep their promises.
Yet we all have times when we act like slackers. What about being a prayer slacker (1 THESSALONIANS 5:17-18), a Bible-reading slacker (PSALM 119:103; 2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17), a church slacker (ROMANS 12:4-8) or a sharing Jesus slacker? (MATTHEW 28:19-20; ACTS 1:8). It is so easy to be slackers when it comes to spending time with God and loving and serving His people.
If we are not doing what we know God wants us to do, we are spiritual slackers. In fact, when we refuse to obey God, we are sinning.
Listen to these challenging and convicting words from the book of James: “It is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it” (JAMES 4:17 NLT). Let’s not be spiritual slackers.
