IN THIS VERY ROOM

IN THIS VERY ROOM

Bible: John 20:19-29

Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among
them and said, “Peace be with you!” (John 20:26).

I love meeting with the Christians in my church. But, although I’m really encouraged when I meet with other Christians to sing praise songs and read the Bible, the important thing is that Jesus is with us. But it goes beyond that. He isn’t just with us at church but in every room of our lives.

I wonder where you’re reading this—a kitchen, a coffee shop, your bedroom, on the bus? Perhaps you’re in a hospital or a school classroom. It may be a room that reflects everything that’s right in your life or a place that represents all that’s wrong. And you might be alone or upset.

When the awful reality of Jesus’ execution had sunk in, His friends met, scared for their lives, in a locked room. John says that “where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you’ ” (JOHN 20:19, NKJV). A week later it
happened again when Jesus entered through locked doors to bring peace just by being there with them (VV.26-29). Wherever you are today, as one old song reminds us, “There’s quite enough hope and quite enough power to chase away any gloom, for Jesus, Lord Jesus, is in this very room.”

What I’m thankful for . . .

You know me, Jesus. You know who I am, where I go and what I do. Thank You for Your peace, no matter where I am or what I am going through. Thank You for never changing Your love for me.

OUR LOVING GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR —
FOREVER BY OUR SIDE.
