AWAKE WITH THE BIBLE

AWAKE WITH THE BIBLE

Bible: Psalm 119:145-152

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in
your word (Psalm 119:147).

Whenever a tsunami warning is given on the northern coastline of Maui, Hawaii, the people living there rush up the side of a mountain to a high place of safety. Nearby is a tall wooden cross that was placed there many years ago by Christians. For their physical safety, people run to the area the cross marks out.

In a similar way, all of us need a place of safety with God. Why? Because God gives us these warnings in the Bible: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and “the wages of sin is death” (ROMANS 3:23; 6:23). Hebrews 9:27 tells us: “People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement”. We might not like to think about what the consequences of our sin will be as we face our perfect and good God, but it’s a serious thing “to fall into the hands of the living God” (10:31).

The good news is that out of love for us, the Father has made a place of safety! He sent His Son Jesus to die so we wouldn’t have to face His judgement or be cut off from Him forever (ROMANS 5:8-10; COLOSSIANS 1:19-22).

Because of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead, He is our place of safety. Have you run to the cross?

Thinking it over . . .

What is your first reaction when you are stressed out? What difference do you think it would make if you talked to God about your worry and focused on what the Bible says?

ONLY GOD CAN GIVE US REAL PEACE IN STRESSFUL SITUATIONS.
