SHARING GOD’S CONCERN

SHARING GOD’S CONCERN

Bible: Galatians 2:1-10

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker,
but whoever is kind to the needy honours God (PROVERBS 14:31).

Reading

Numbers give us information, but sometimes they can also numb us to the people those numbers are talking about. This hit me recently as I read that every year 15 million people die from hunger. That’s chilling. And for those of us who have enough to eat, it’s hard to imagine. Millions of
children die each year before their fifth birthday, and a third of those deaths are to do with hunger. These are staggering numbers, but they are much more than numbers. They are individual people loved by God.

We can show the Father’s love by meeting the needs of those around us. Solomon wrote, “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God” (PROVERBS 14:31). Maybe we can help those in need by volunteering at a soup kitchen, supporting our church’s community work, praying for the poor around the world, raising money at our school’s fair and any number of other things.

Realising that we also need to help look out for others, especially people who are struggling, pleases God. It means we’re just as concerned about His people as He is.

To pray about . . .

Father, please help me to keep praying for those who are in need around the world and in my community. And show me where I can lend a hand.

THE MORE WE UNDERSTAND GOD’S LOVE FOR US THE MORE LOVE WE’LL SHOW TO OTHERS.
