LOST AND FOUND

Bible: Luke 15:4-10

Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin (Luke 15:9)

Reading

We all know the panic of not being able to find something important, like our phone or the homework we’re meant to be handing in today. We search frantically, going back to all the same places hundreds of times and imagining the worst scenarios of where it might have ended up. The times when we find what we’ve lost bring huge relief!

In Luke 15:8-10, Jesus told the story of something that was lost—a valuable coin, which was like a whole day’s wages. The woman who lost the coin was so worried about finding it that she lit a lamp, swept the house and carefully searched until she had it in her hands again. Then she told her friends “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin” (V.9). Then Jesus gave the point of the story: “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (V.10).

People are of great value to God. Those who don’t know Him are lost in their selfish, self-focused lives. Jesus paid the ultimate price by dying on the cross to pay for all their wrongs so they could be rescued. Do you know people who are lost? Ask God to give you an opportunity to share the good news with them so they can say sorry to God and live instead in His love and grace.

Thinking it over . . .

How often do you think about the fact that some of your friends and family don’t know Jesus? Does this worry you? Why not pray for opportunities to tell them about Jesus?

TO BE FOUND, YOU MUST FIRST ADMIT THAT YOU’RE LOST
