How do you feel about ‘misfits’? There are people in every part of our lives who are ‘different’ to us in some way and maybe struggle to fit in. Whether in the classroom, on the football pitch or anywhere else, there will always be one or two weirdos on the side-lines. In the end, it is way too easy to ignore them.

Jesus, however, showed interest in Zacchaeus, a hated tax collector in Jericho, and included him in His salvation plan (LUKE 19:1-10). A rejected and friendless man because of his job, Zacchaeus was desperate to see Jesus and climbed a tree to get a glimpse of Him. When Jesus passed by, He saw
Zacchaeus’ genuine interest and told him to come down because he wanted to speak with him face to face in his house.

Some people complained that Jesus was spending time with a bad guy and a misfit. Yet His loving attention changed Zacchaeus’ life. He did a complete turnaround and offered repayments to everyone he had cheated. New, God-centred life had come to his house. He’d been saved by Jesus.

Jesus’ mission was simple: search for lost people, no matter what their struggles, and offer them new life in God’s family. As Christians, that’s our mission too.

JESUS’ MISSION IS OUR MISSION.
