SHALOM HOUSE
Bible: Galatians 5:16-25
The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).

In Perth, Australia, there is a place called Shalom House where men struggling with different addictions can go to find help. At Shalom House they’ll meet caring staff members who introduce them to God’s “shalom” (the Hebrew word for peace). Lives crushed under the weight of addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling and other things are being transformed by the love of God.
Central to this transformation is the message of the cross. Through the resurrection of Jesus broken people find their own lives resurrected and made brand new. In Jesus we can find true peace and a real rescue.
Peace is not just being away from conflict; it is the presence of God’s wholeness. All of us need this shalom, and it is only found in trusting Jesus and receiving His Spirit. This is why Paul directed the Galatians to the Spirit’s transformational work. As the Holy Spirit works in our lives, He grows His “fruit” in us, which includes love, joy, patience and more (GALATIANS 5:22-23). He gives us
that lifestyle of true, lasting peace.
As the Spirit helps us to live in God’s shalom, we learn to bring our needs, addictions and issues to our heavenly Father. We don’t need to try and sort them on our own. When we work through them with Him, we can experience “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,”—the peace that “will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).
What I’m thankful for . . .
God of shalom, thank You that Your plan is for peace to reign in my life.
Thank You for the work of Jesus to make peace available and the work of
the Spirit who helps me to live out a life of shalom.
WE CAN PRAISE GOD FOR THE SKILLS HE HAS GIVEN US.
