COMPLETE
Bible: Colossians 2:6-12
So you also are complete through your union with Christ (V.10 NLT)

In a movie I watched recently, a marriage begins to fall apart. Trying to win his wife back, the husband looks into her eyes and says, “You complete me.” It’s a heart-warming message we see a lot at the cinema. It’s the idea that each of us is a ‘half’ that must find our other half to be made complete.
The belief that a romantic partner completes us seems to be cemented into our thinking. But is it true? I’ve talked to many married couples who still feel incomplete for one reason or another. There’s nothing wrong with their partner—but it turns out they’re not the answer to their ‘emptiness’. Ultimately, no human can fully complete us.
Paul gives another solution. “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ” (COLOSSIANS 2:9-10 NLT). Jesus doesn’t just forgive us (VV.11-12) and free us from sin (VV.14-15), He completes us by bringing the life of God into our lives (V.13). He is the one we are each looking for!
Romance, dating and marriage are all good, but no matter how great being with another person is, they will never, ever make us whole. Only Jesus can do that. Instead of expecting a person or anything else to complete us, let’s allow God’s fullness to fill our lives more and more.
Thinking it over . . .
How have you tried to find meaning and satisfaction through people
instead of God? How does Jesus completing us change your view of dating,
marriage and singleness?
ONLY JESUS BRINGS THE COMPLETION WE’RE LOOKING FOR.
