WHERE CHOICES LEAD
Bible: Psalm 1
The Lord watches over the way of the righteous (Psalm 1:6).
Reading
With no phone signal and no map, we had just our memory of a fixed map at the start of the walking trail to guide us. More than an hour later, we finally found our way out of the woods and back into the car park. Having missed the turn-off that would have made for a half-mile hike, we ended up taking a much longer trek.
Life can be like that: we have to ask not simply if something is right or wrong, but where it will lead. Psalm 1 compares two ways of living—that of the righteous (those who love God) and that of the wicked (the enemies of those who love God). The righteous grow strong like a tree, but the wicked blow away in the wind (PSALM 1:3-4). This psalm shows what growing strong really looks like: depending on God for absolutely everything.
So how do we become that kind of person? Among other things, Psalm 1 tells us to step back from destructive friendships and selfish habits (V.1). These things can quickly block us from enjoying God’s blessings in our lives (V.2). Ultimately, the reason for our growth and strength is God’s daily care for us: “The Lord watches over the way of the righteous” (V.6).
Give all that you are to God, let Him redirect you from lifestyles that lead to nowhere, and instead plant yourself in the wisdom, direction and teaching of the Bible.
Thinking it over . . .
What friendships or habits do you need to make a break from? Where do you see your current lifestyle choices leading you? How can you create more time in your week to read the Bible?
EVERY CHOICE LEADS SOMEWHERE, SO LET’S MAKE SURE OUR CHOICES ALWAYS LEAD US TO JESUS.
