IN LIVING COLOUR

Bible: Revelation 4:1-6

When Xavier put on the glasses his aunt sent for his fifteenth birthday, he literally couldn’t believe his eyes. Born colour-blind, Xavier had only ever seen the world in shades of grey, white and black. But with his new EnChroma glasses Xavier saw colour for the very first time. His happiness at being able to see the world like everyone else made his family feel like they’d been part of a
miracle.

Colourful brilliance also brought a powerful reaction from John (REVELATION 1:17). After falling in front of the full glory of Jesus (1:12-16), John saw “a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne . . . From the throne came flashes of lightning” (4:2-5).

In the Old Testament, Ezekiel had a similar vision, seeing “what looked like a throne of lapis lazuli”, with a figure above the throne who “looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire” (EZEKIEL 1:26-27). This awesome figure was surrounded with rainbow-like radiance (V.28).

One day we will meet Jesus face-to-face. These visions give us just a tiny hint of His breathtaking and dynamic magnificence. As we enjoy the world God made here and now, let’s live eagerly waiting for the far better experience of enjoying knowing Him perfectly.

What I’m thankful for . . .

Father, words fail us when we try to imagine what we will experience when we meet You face to face. Thank You for the small hints of Your awesomeness You have placed in our world already.

WHO IS LIKE YOU, Lord GOD ALMIGHTY? YOU, Lord, ARE MIGHTY, AND YOUR FAITHFULNESS SURROUNDS YOU. PSALM 89:8
