If you follow sports at all, you know that sports fans can change like the weather. A team’s star player can hear a stadium of cheering voices if they do well—or a stadium of booing voices if they mess up.

Sports stars easily fall from grace because people are fickle—ready to follow whoever the latest big deal is or whoever will score the goals or win the points for their team. And the fans are always ready to turn against that very same person the moment they start playing poorly.
The Bible has a key example of fickleness that is way more serious. A huge crowd in Jerusalem praised and cheered for Jesus on the Sunday He entered the city, riding on a donkey (MATTHEW 21:6-11). But just a few days later, some of those same people were almost certainly in the crowd calling for Jesus’ crucifixion (27:20-23). On Sunday they worshipped Him, but on Friday they actually shouted for His death.

Sometimes we can flip-flop in our relationship with Jesus. We sing praise loudly on Sunday, but then act like Jesus just gets in the way when we’re with our friends at school. We tell Him on Sunday that we love Him, but then we don’t talk to Him again for the rest of the week. Let’s not be fickle followers of Jesus. Let’s worship and praise Him every day!

To pray about . . .

Dear Jesus, You are my God and my Saviour. I want to love You, hold tight to You and live for You every day. Please help me to keep You at the very centre of all I do.

LIVING FOR JESUS ISN’T JUST FOR WHEN IT’S CONVENIENT, BUT FOR EVERY DAY.
