WITNESSING FROM A WHEELCHAIR

WITNESSING FROM A WHEELCHAIR

Bible: Matthew 20:20-28

The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. Matthew 20:28

Nancy put this ad on her social media feed: “If you are lonely or have a problem, call me. I am in a wheelchair and hardly ever get out. We can share our problems with each other. Just call. I’d love to talk.” The replies to that ad have been incredible—she gets about thirty messages every week!

What made Nancy want to reach out from her wheelchair to help others in need? Nancy explained that before her paralysis she had been perfectly healthy but deep in depression. She had tried to commit suicide by jumping from her flat window, but instead she became paralysed from the waist down. In the hospital, totally frustrated, she sensed Jesus saying to her, “Nancy, you’ve had a healthy body but a crippled soul. From now on you will have a crippled body but a healthy soul.” As a result of that experience, she gave her life to Jesus. When she was finally allowed to go home, she prayed for a way to share God’s love with others, and the idea of the social media ad came to her.

All of us can do something to help the people around us. Limited as we may feel, we can still pray, call, blog and take whatever opportunities God gives us. No matter how small we feel, we can be effective for Jesus Christ if we copy His serving attitude.

Thinking it over . . .

What excuses do you sometimes use to not look out for others? How can you copy Jesus today, expecting to serve, rather than wanting to be served?

GOD PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO SERVE. ARE WE LOOKING FOR THEM?
