JESUS’ GRAVE

In one documentary a guy claimed there was evidence that disproved Jesus’ resurrection. He said that the words “Jesus son of Joseph” found on a tomb near Jerusalem are referring to Jesus of the Bible. He also claims to have identified Jesus’ DNA.

How valid are his thoughts? The Israel Antiquities Authority calls them “nonsense”. Other secular and religious scholars agree. Jesus and Joseph were common names in first century Judea. And the guy would need actual DNA samples from Jesus to compare with the bones he’s found in the tomb! Obviously, that’s impossible!

But the arguments in favour of Jesus’ resurrection are pretty strong. Most amazing is the fact that every original follower of Jesus (except John) was killed for their belief in Him and His resurrection. They changed from being confused and grieving to being ablaze with the news that Jesus had risen again. Their message about Jesus coming back to life was very offensive to people; and they faced horrible opposition and even death (ACTS 2:29-32). If Jesus had not been raised from the dead, why did His friends choose to die for a lie?

Two thousand years ago, Jesus’ friends were eyewitnesses to the real tomb of Jesus—and that there was no body to be found. The angels told them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! ” (LUKE 24:5-6). When they met Him after His resurrection, their lives were never the same again (JOHN 20:24-29)!
