THE CROSS

One time I was in Australia I got to see the Southern Cross. It was a clear night, and the constellation of stars was really bright. Seafarers began relying on it as early as the 15th century for direction through the seas. It’s quite a small collection of stars, but it is visible most of the year.

Isn’t it amazing to think that the very God who created those stars actually allowed Himself to be hung on a wooden cross to die for the people He created? Hebrews 12:2 tells us to “[fix] our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The wonder of the cross is that while we were still in our sins—enemies of God (EPHESIANS 2:1-5)—our Saviour died for us (ROMANS 5:8). Now, as soon as we put our trust in Jesus, we are made right with God, even being called His children (1 JOHN 3:1). He gives us a brand new life, identity, purpose and future— right now! He comes and makes His home in us (JOHN 14:23) so that we can live our best life (JOHN 10:10). All because Jesus died in our place. What incredible love! What an amazing gift! BC

What I’m thankful for . . .

Thank You, Jesus, for taking my place on the cross. I don’t deserve Your love; I’ve done nothing to earn it. I am so in awe that You would take it on Yourself to save me and make me Your own. Thank You that Your resurrection gives me new life now with You—and new life forever in Your home!
