PROMISES

Bible: Micah 5:1-5

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times. Micah 5.2

Reading

Isaiah, Micah and many of the other prophets predicted and promised many details of Jesus’ birth, life and death hundreds of years before they were fulfilled. One American mathematician worked out the probability of just eight of these prophecies being fulfilled by just one person. He said, “The chance that any man might have fulfilled all eight prophecies would be just one in 100,000,000,000,000,000.”

He then came up with an image, to show just how unlikely it would be. He said that if we took that many silver coins and laid them across Texas they would cover the state two feet deep. Then, to emphasise his point, he said, “Mark one of these silver coins and stir the whole mass thoroughly. . . . Blindfold a man and tell him he can travel as far as he wishes, but he must pick up [that one marked silver coin.] What chance would he have of getting the right one?”

So what this all means is that if Isaiah and the others were making up their promises about the coming King, it would be pretty much impossible for someone to fulfil them all perfectly. Yet Jesus did fulfil them perfectly. And not just eight, but all of them—which is over three hundred prophecies! He is the real deal—the King that God promised through the prophets.

PROPHECY IS HISTORY WRITTEN AHEAD OF TIME.
