GOD’S WAYS
Bible:1 Kings 17:1-16
How unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out! (ROMANS 11:33).

After the rivers and brooks started drying up in Israel, because of the drought God had sent, God told Elijah to go to Zarephath where he would find food and somewhere to stay. I wonder if Elijah was surprised to find out that the widow who was to look after him was extremely poor! In fact, she only had enough food to feed her and her son one last meal, “that we may eat it— and die” (1 KINGS 17:12). Yet Elijah knew better. God’s words were the truth of the matter and He was their true provider, no what the widow saw in her empty food cupboards. So Elijah said, “First make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son” (V.13). The widow had a choice: eat her one last meal and live a few more hours, or give up her meal and trust her life, and her food supply (V.14), to God. We often only see what’s going on around us. School pressure, exam stress, family issues, homework . . . and we forget to ‘look up’ and remember that God is at work in it all. The widow was able to look away from her empty cupboards and trust what God said. Can we do the same? Can we trust God’s care and provision, even when it feels like we don’t have enough? Our heavenly Father knows exactly what He is doing. Although His ways are sometimes hard to understand (ISAIAH 55:9), He promises us that everything will work out for our good if we trust Him (ROMANS 8:28).
