THE SHIELD

THE SHIELD

Bible:Psalm 3:1-5

You, Lord, are a shield around me (V.3).

On the international space station, astronauts have a bigger challenge than orbiting earth at 17,500 miles per hour! It’s the return trip home. Their tiny capsule must get through the earth’s atmosphere at a precise angle and speed. Our atmosphere is a bit like a shield, designed by God, to protect our planet’s life from space. It screens us from ultraviolet radiation and it also stops meteors and space debris from hurtling down on us in a fiery rain. As Christians, we have an even better shield around us. That shield is God Himself. He protects us from temptations, doubts, worries, lies, guilt and other dangers. “But you, Lord, are a shield around me,” said David. “My glory, the One who lifts my head high” (PSALM 3:3). David prayed those words while enemy soldiers surrounded him. They served Absalom—David’s rebellious son—who wanted to kill David and take his throne. Needing a shield, David trusted in God our King and slept peacefully during his crisis. “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me” (V.5). In our journey through life, problems and issues are sure to come. But God hears and sees us. He is with us in every trial and crisis. Can you say with David that God is your trusted shield, your heavenly protector who you rely on? He is our shield! He says so! But are we taking shelter in Him, or still trying to figure stuff out for ourselves? When we trust Him, our enemies, issues and problems
don’t rule. God does.

NOTHING CAN GET PAST OUR HEAVENLY SHIELD.
