When you’re down

When you’re down

Bible :Psalm 6

I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and
drench my couch with tears . . . The Lord has hear my cry for mercy (VV.6,9).

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to get us down, does it? Our friends making fun of us, a bad day at school, having nothing to watch on TV, finding yourself home alone for the evening. As a Christian, maybe you think you should feel peace no matter what. But somehow you never really do. Everything seems against you; you can’t get outside the gloom of your own head; and even simple things are a struggle. David must have been feeling that way when he wrote Psalm 6. He felt weak and sickly (PSALM 6:2), troubled (V.3), abandoned (V.4), tired (V.6) and full of sadness
(V.7). But he knew what to do when he was down. He looked up and trusted God to take care of him and to see him through. When we look up and focus on God, something good happens. We get our eyes off ourselves and gain a new appreciation of Him. Next time you’re down, try looking up to God. He is King (PSALM 47:8); He loves you (1 JOHN 4:9-10); He says you are so special (MATTHEW 6:26); He has a purpose for your life, even in the tough times (JAMES 1:2-4). Yes, things can seem way too dark at times. But don’t let it keep you down and unable to get outside your own head space. Think about God’s goodness, talk to Him and know that He hears you (PSALM 6:9). That will give you strength to get up when you’re down.

WHEN LIFE KNOCKS YOU TO YOUR KNEES,
YOU’RE IN A GOOD POSITION TO PRAY.
