I was at a family member’s wedding recently. She turned to the groom during the vows and promised to love him, comfort him, honour him and, forsaking all others, keep faithful to him as long as they both shall live. A few minutes later, the service leader announced they were husband and wife. As King Solomon grew in wisdom, it meant he learned to live life by God’s good ways and by His perfect design. And God has designed every part of our lives, including sex. Solomon saw the plan God had for sex as so special that he wrote a whole book about it: the Song of Solomon! God’s design for sex is that we give ourselves to just one person, in marriage. It gives us the purity and simplicity of being able to say, “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” (Song of Solomon 6:3). When a man and woman are united in marriage and in Jesus, they can share spiritual, emotional and physical closeness with happiness and freedom. There is no pressure or messy complications. So sex is to be “stored up” for marriage (V.13). God’s designs are always given for a reason. Sex is a powerful thing, connecting couples in a dynamic way. So let’s take it seriously, give it the respect it deserves and be wise. We’ll find God’s plan for sex far better than the world’s.

GOD’S DESIGNS ARE ALWAYS GOOD
AND ALWAYS HAVE A PURPOSE.
