Not about me

Not about me

Bible:Romans 6:5-14

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him (V.8).

David grew up in a violent home. Early on in his childhood, he decided, “There’s nothing wrong with me, it’s everyone else who has a problem. I’m the only smart, sane one.” With this perspective, along with his mental-health issues, he felt no guilt after he tried to kill his dad. As an atheist, he believed that, after all, people are only “sacks of molecules”. In jail, David met a Christian who gave him a Bible. As he read, he began to understand that he wasn’t the “best, most advanced human being” ever. Jesus was far superior! Over time David put his trust in Jesus and became a Christian. His outlook changed radically through his belief in Jesus—and he began to rebuild his life and relationships in a healthy, God-dependent way. When we choose Jesus, we also leave behind the belief that we’re at the centre of the universe. We’re no longer slaves to sin (our self-centred, Godless instincts), as Paul told the Romans, for our “old self was crucified” with Jesus (ROMANS 6:6). With sin no longer in charge of us (V.14) and with the Spirit’s strength, we begin to change and look outside ourselves to live for God and the people He has made. As you think about David’s story of real change, ask God to remind you how He’s transforming you as well. And if you haven’t experienced any change, talk to Him about it! We are not to follow “the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (12:2).

IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU TO WILL AND TO ACT
IN ORDER TO FULFIL HIS GOOD PURPOSE. PHILIPPIANS 2:13
