Sometimes we can feel guilty about our prayer lives. No matter how much we pray, we’re sure it’s not enough. We think we should pray more, but then something comes up; our parents give us a job to do, homework needs to be done or we’re just too tired. Where could you turn in the Bible to find help with praying? The book of Psalms. But the psalms are more than prayers. God’s people would also sing the psalms with others. Their prayers were meant to be sung. Think about Psalm 25, a song that includes things that make up a healthy prayer life. Praising God: “Good and upright is the Lord” (PSALM 25:8). “All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful” (V.10). “The Lord confides in those who fear him” (V.14) Admitting sin: “Do not remember the sins of my youth” (V.7). “For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great” (V.11). Asking for God’s help: “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” (V.4). “Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish” (V.17). There will be days when it’s hard to pray. So why not turn to the psalms, like Psalm 25. Use these words to help you focus on God, praise Him, trust Him and rely on Him.
