Is God Hiding?

Is God Hiding?

Bible: Isaiah 8:12-18

I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face . . . I will put my trust in him (V.17).

Lela was dying of cancer. Tim couldn’t understand why a loving God would let her suffer. She had been a Bible teacher and a mentor to many people in the church. “Why did You let this happen?” he cried. Yet Tim continued to trust God, even though he couldn’t understand why this was happening. “So why do you still believe in God?” I asked him frankly. “What keeps you from turning away from Him?” “Because of what has happened before,” Tim replied. While he couldn’t ‘see’ God now, he explained, he remembered the times in his life when God helped and protected him. These were signs that God was still there caring for his family. “I know the God I believe in will come through in His own way,” said Tim. Tim’s words echo Isaiah’s of trust in God. Even when God was “hiding his face” from Israel, they would “wait for the Lord.” They could trust in God because of the signs He’d given of His continuing love and provision (ISAIAH 8:17-18). There are times when it feels as if God is hiding. That’s when we rely on what we can see of His work in our lives, in the past and present. They are the visible reminder of an invisible God—a God who is always with us and will answer in His own time and way.

THE GOD WE CAN’T SEE IS ALWAYS
AT WORK IN THE STUFF WE DO SEE.
