Clean Slate

Clean Slate

Bible:Psalm 51

Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin (V.2).

Reading

After being released from prison, Michael was ready for a fresh start. He wanted to remove the gang tattoos that covered his body. They were reminders of the way he’d lived before spending fifteen years in prison. Getting rid of them helped him begin a new life. When we go to God for forgiveness, we begin a new life too. He cleans us up on the inside—removing all the ‘tattoos’ of our sin, mess and wrongs. The psalmist, King David, talked about how God had cleaned him from sin in Psalm 51. After his affair with Bathsheba (and then murdering her husband), he knew he had “done what is evil in [God’s] sight” (PSALM 51:4). David asked God to wash away those stains: “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow (V.7). God was willing to clean even those deep, dark ‘tattoos’. When we ask God for new life with Him, there is nothing He won’t forgive. When we trust Jesus’ sacrifice, where He became our sin and paid for it in full, we can be confident that we’ve been washed clean (2 CORINTHIANS 5:21). Even though there may be consequences—the son born from David’s adultery died—we are made completely free from the ‘tattoos’ of our past. There is no judgement left for us to face (ROMANS 8:1)! Jesus, we too have done evil in Your sight. Please wash us clean!

JESUS WASHES US CLEAN.
