Kept safe
Bible:Deuteronomy 31:1-8
The Lord himself goes before you (V.8).

In my part of the world we have scary, poisonous snakes. One time I was in the garden and kicked aside some weeds that were growing . . . and leapt into the air! A venomous copperhead snake lay hidden in the grass—an inch to the left and I would have kicked it by mistake. I saw its colourful markings as soon as I moved the clump of weeds. When my feet hit the ground a few feet away, I thanked God I hadn’t been bitten. And I wondered how many times He had kept me from dangers I never knew were there. God watches over His people. Moses told the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (DEUTERONOMY 31:8). They couldn’t see God, but He was with them all the same. Sometimes things happen that we don’t understand. We ask God why our plans have got interrupted, why we didn’t get the grades we worked so hard for, why we didn’t get picked for a team. While these things hurt, maybe can we also think about the fact that God may be keeping us safe from unseen dangers when things like this happen. Perhaps He is guiding us along a specific path that
will keep us close to Him and away from stuff that might lead us totally the wrong way in life. The Bible reminds us that His perfect care remains over us every day. He is “always” with us (MATTHEW 28:20).
