The modern-day marathon is based on the story of a Greek messenger, Pheidippides. According to legend, in 490 bc he ran approximately twentyfive miles from Marathon to Athens to announce the Greeks’ victory against their enemies, the invading Persians. Today, people run marathons for charities, to tick it off their bucket lists and for lots of other reasons. But Pheidippides ran
for a very unique reason: each of his steps was for the joy of delivering good news to his people!
Around 500 years later, two women also ran to deliver good news—the most crucial news in all of history. When Mary and Mary Magdalene arrived at the tomb where Jesus had been laid after His crucifixion, they found it empty. An angel told them that Jesus had “risen from the dead” and to “go quickly and tell his disciples” (MATTHEW 28:7). The women, “afraid yet filled with joy,” ran to
tell the disciples what they’d found out (V.8). Do we have the same excited reaction to the resurrection of Jesus? Does it inspire us to tell others the good news that He is alive and King forever? We may not even need to ‘run’ further than next door or to a classmate to find someone who needs to know about our Saviour. He won the battle against death so we might live victoriously with Him forever!

JESUS’ RESURRECTION IS NEWS
WORTH RUNNING TO SHARE.
