Living everyday

Bible:Proverbs 15:13-33

All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a
continual feast (V.15).

When Tamer Lee Owens celebrated her 104th birthday, she said her long life was down to “Laughter, God and the little things.” She still finds enjoyment each day in talking with people, taking a walk and reading the Bible. “I don’t know how long He’ll let me stay here,” she said. “I just thank God for what He’s given me already.” Most of us won’t live 104 years, but we can learn from Tamer Lee how to enjoy each day that we’re given.

Laughter—“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” (PROVERBS 15:13). True happiness begins deep inside us because of our relationship with Jesus—and then shows on our faces.

God—“Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honour” (V.33). When God is the centre of who we are and what we do, He can teach us His ways in every experience.

The Little Things—“Better a dish of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred” (V.17). Living in love and peace with the people we know is far better than having lots of stuff. Being in stressful relationships is miserable. If that’s your situation, ask God to help you be a person who brings generosity and peace, not more fighting and tension. Not all of us will live to 104, but we can all live well each day—with laughter, God and the little things in life.

LIVING WELL ISN’T ABOUT WHAT WE GET
BUT WHO WE LIVE FOR.
