The way of sorrows

The way of sorrows

Bible:Hebrews 10:1-10

We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (V.10).

The road Jesus travelled to the cross through the streets of Jerusalem is known as “The Way of Sorrows”. But the writer of Hebrews viewed the road Jesus took as more than just a path of sadness and loss. Yes Jesus went to a painful death on the cross. But He willingly walked that road to make a “new and living way” into the presence of God for us (HEBREWS 10:20). It was the way of suffering, but also the way to victory. For centuries the Jewish people had tried to know God and be right with Him through animal sacrifices and by keeping the law He had given them. But the law was “only a shadow of the good things that are coming”, for “it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (VV.1,4). Jesus’ journey down The Way of Sorrows led to His death and resurrection. Because of His sacrifice, we can be made holy “just as he who called you is holy” (1 PETER 1:15) when we put our trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. Even though we aren’t able to keep the law perfectly, we can now know God without fear, fully confident that we are welcomed and loved (HEBREWS 10:10,22). Jesus’ way of sorrow opened for us a new and living way to God.

FOR BY ONE SACRIFICE HE HAS MADE
PERFECT FOR EVER THOSE WHO ARE BEING
MADE HOLY. HEBREWS 10:14
