Healing words

Healing Words

Bible: Proverbs 16:20-24

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the
bones (V.24).

Reading

A test was done recently to see if the way doctors spoke to their patients actually helped them cope with illness better. The test itself was pretty simple: two groups of people were given something to make their skin really itchy. Then one group was left to cope on their own, while the other group had regular visits from their doctor who gave them lots of reassuring and kind
words. The results were clear: the people who were regularly encouraged by their doctor coped better with the itching than the people who had to get on with it on their own. The writer of Proverbs seemed to know how important encouraging words are. He says that “gracious words” bring “healing to the bones” (PROVERBS 16:24). The positive effect of words isn’t limited to our health: when we listen to the advice of older Christians or our youth leader, we’re also more likely to make good God-centred decisions (V.20). And encouragement helps us face the challenges that come our way. Isn’t it amazing what difference a word of encouragement makes? Doesn’t
it feel great when someone tells us they care about what we’re going through? In the same way the Bible is God’s encouragement to us. It tells us He cares more than we can imagine about how we’re doing and what we’re going through. Let’s spend time reading His words and listening to His encouragement and reassurance. And then we can be ready to share those healing words with the people we meet today.

EVERY WORD OF GOD PROVES TRUE.
HE IS A SHIELD TO ALL WHO COME TO HIM FOR
PROTECTION
