Bible: Job 38:4-11
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? (V.4).

Scientists know our planet is exactly the right distance from the sun. A little closer and all the water would evaporate, like on Venus. Only a little bit further and everything would freeze like it does on Mars. Earth is also just the right size to create the right amount of gravity. Less would make everything weightless like on our moon, while more gravity would trap suffocating poisonous gases that suffocate life as on Jupiter. The detailed physical, chemical and biological specifics that make up our world show there must be a Designer behind it all. What I mean is this: there’s no way this world just happened by accident! We catch a glimpse of God’s work to make the universe when He talks to Job about things beyond our understanding. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” God asks. “Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone?” (JOB 38:4-6). This glimpse of God as our Creator should fill us with awe. He is the only One who “shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb . . . [who said] ‘This far you may come and no further’” (VV.8-11). In thanks and praise let’s sing to Him with the morning stars and shout for joy with the angels (V.7). This complex, detailed, exciting world was made for us that we might know and trust the God who created it for us.
This glimpse of God as our Creator should fill us with awe.
