What’s your ‘CQ’?

What’s your ‘CQ’?

Bible: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23

I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save
some (V.23).

Do you know your IQ? Apparently the UK’s average IQ score is 107. Which sounds reasonable. Although I found out the other day that Koko, a gorilla who was taught sign language amongst other things, had an IQ of approximately 95. So maybe 107 isn’t that impressive after all! Along with an IQ (Intelligence Quotient), people have an EQ (Emotional Quotient—our ability to read and understand emotions). But I wonder if we could add another one: CQ (Christ-like Quotient). This is something the apostle Paul lived out. Paul wanted to bring as many people to Jesus as possible. His first priority was showing Jesus to the world. And so Paul adapted to each person he met to show them Jesus in a way that made sense to them. Paul’s ‘CQ’ is most obvious in this statement: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 CORINTHIANS 9:22). All things. To all people. So that by all possible means some might be saved. Though he was free, Paul made himself like a slave (V.19). To the people who lived by the law, Paul lived by the law (V.20). To those without God’s law, Paul didn’t use the law as his starting point. Paul gave up his rights, preferences and demands for the sake of bringing people to Jesus—that’s great CQ! For us, this might mean talking to the lonely, quiet kids in class during lunchbreak. Or going to a football match with your football-mad friend who doesn’t know Jesus yet—even though you couldn’t care less about sport. Being Christ-like to these people means putting their needs first so they can see Jesus in us!

SHOW JESUS TO OTHER PEOPLE, IN EVERY PLACE
AND IN EVERY SITUATION.
