Ready for the wedding

Ready for the wedding

Bible: Matthew 6:25–34

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour (V.13).

I’ll be honest: we were bored and hungry. We had been waiting over an hour for the bride to arrive at the church for what was meant to be a 12 o’clock wedding. I was getting really fidgety and starting to wonder, Maybe I could just pop outside for a few minutes and stretch my legs. I’m sure there’ll be a corner shop somewhere where I could quickly get a snack . . . As we waited, I felt like we were living out a parable (the type of story Jesus often told). I knew if I went outside for a quick walk or to buy snacks, the bride could come at any moment and I would miss her entrance. As I toyed with the idea, I also thought about Jesus’ parable about the ten virgins (MATTHEW 25:1-13). Five came prepared with enough oil for their lamps to stay lit as they waited for the bridegroom, but five did not. Just as it was too late for me to go and get snacks, so it was too late for the girls in the story to go and buy more oil for their lamps. Jesus told this parable to make the point that we need to be prepared for when He comes again. When He comes back we will give an account of ourselves to Him. Are we trusting Him for ourselves? Are we waiting and ready for Him? Or are we distracted with other things?

ARE WE WAITING FOR JESUS’ RETURN?
