Bible: Psalm 119:17-24

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law (V.18).

Reading

Do you ever read through the terms and conditions when you take out a new phone contract? Sometimes there can be pages and pages of small print! That didn’t stop Amy from reading through the details of a new contract she had. And her reading paid off—literally! On page seven of the small print, she found out the company was giving away £10,000 to the first person to read that far into the contract. They also gave thousands of pounds to local schools as part of their “It Pays to Read” competition. Amy said, “I’ve always been that nerd who reads contracts. I was the most surprised of anyone!” One psalm-writer wanted his eyes opened to “see wonderful things” about God in the words of the Bible (PSALM 119:18). He knew there were exciting and life-changing truths about God to find out, and he wanted to get to know Him better. I imagine he was looking to see more of who God is, what He has already given, and how to follow Him closely (VV.24,98). He wrote, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long” (V.97). We too can take our time to read and think about the Bible’s stories and teaching. Every bit of it will help us get to know God better and grow in our life with Him. God wants to teach us, guide us and open our eyes to find out awesome things about Him. We’ll find that it pays to read because it’s the best way to get to know Him better.

IF WE WANT TO KNOW GOD BETTER, WE NEED TO
SPEND TIME READING HIS WORDS.
