Loneliness is one of the greatest threats to our mental health. When we feel lonely or cut off, it affects how we act, how much we eat, how we treat our families, how depressed we feel, and stuff like that. Apparently nearly twothirds of us—across all ages and genders—feel lonely at least some of the time. One supermarket has come up with “talking tables” in their cafés as a way to offer a connection between people. Anyone who needs a bit of company can simply sit at a talking table and start a conversation with the other people who join them. The people in the early church were committed to connecting with each other too. Without continually meeting up together, they would probably have felt very alone in their life with Jesus, which was still new to the world. Not only did they “[devote] themselves to the apostles’ teaching” to learn what following Jesus meant, they also “[met] together in the temple courts” and “broke bread in their homes” for encouragement and to look out for each other (ACTS 2:42,46). We need human connection; God designed us that way! Painful times of loneliness show how much we need other people. Like those first Christians in the early church, it’s important for us to meet up with our youth group and church families. They can encourage us, share our worries, pray for us, care for us . . . and we can do the same for them! We all need each other as we walk this journey with God.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO STAY WELL CONNECTED WITH
OUR CHURCH FAMILIES.
