By faith [Moses] left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger (HEBREWS 11:27).

There was one teacher at school who always seemed like she was just waiting for me to get things wrong. It didn’t matter how much work I put into my essays, or how many questions I answered in class, it was never good enough. Sometimes I just wanted to quit her lessons. The Bible tells us Moses wasn’t mad keen on the idea of being the person to tell Pharaoh to let the people go (EXODUS 3:10; 4:13). As part of God’s rescue of His people from Egypt, He sent ten plagues on the land. I wonder if Moses felt like quitting when he talked with Pharaoh during the plague of darkness (the second to last plague). Pharaoh finally exploded, “[Moses,] get out of my sight! Make sure you do not appear before me again! The day you see my face you will die” (10:28). Despite this threat, Moses was used by God to free the Israelites. “It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible” (HEBREWS 11:27 NLT). Moses didn’t give up because he trusted God to keep His promise of rescue (EXODUS 3:17). We can also rely on the promise that God is with us in every situation, supporting us through His Holy Spirit. He helps us keep going through His power, love and self-control (2 TIMOTHY 1:7). The Spirit provides the strength we need to be people of love, even in difficulties.
