FOMO
Bible:Philippians 4:10-19
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation (V.12).

I think our cat Heathcliff has a bad case of FOMO (the fear of missing out). When I come home, Heathcliff rushes over to inspect my bag to see what I’ve been doing. When anyone is in the kitchen, he stands up on his back paws trying to see if there is anything worth eating on the side and begging for a little bit of it. But when we actually give Heathcliff whatever’s caught his attention, he quickly loses interest, walking away with bored disinterest. But I can’t be too hard on
him . . . I’m just the same. Paul tells us that contentment (being satisfied) isn’t natural—it is learned (PHILIPPIANS 4:11). On our own, we chase after whatever we think will make us feel
good, moving on to the next thing the minute we realise it won’t. Other times, this ‘chasing’ gets us down; making us anxiously shield ourselves from others because we can’t deal with the feeling of emptiness. The surprising thing is that sometimes we need to face our fears (like missing
out or somehow messing up) in order to find real satisfaction. These things can help us finally realise that we won’t find lasting contentment on our own! Having gone through many of the worst things life has to offer, Paul could say first-hand that he had finally learned “the secret” of true contentment (VV.11-12). We have to give up our chase for happiness and satisfaction entirely, and give our needs to God. It is only in knowing Him and making Him the very
centre that we find true peace (VV.6-7). Where are you looking for your satisfaction today
