Lighting up a dark world
Bible:Romans 16:1-5
All the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them (V.4).

A refugee who ran away from his war-torn country told the nightmarish story
of his journey to freedom. Separated from his family, he was abandoned in the middle of the ocean by a smuggler and only just escaped being shipwrecked. When he finally made it to land again, he was imprisoned for a time, where he was starved and beaten. Just when he thought it was all over, he met some Christians who gave him food and somewhere to stay. Eventually, he found a church family who cared for him with a place to live in a new country he could call home.
This story shines a light on the role played by Christians who bring hope and kindness to a hurting world. When writing to Christians in Rome, Paul finished his letter by giving little messages about a few individuals. Among them was Phoebe who had “been the benefactor of many people, including me.” And of Priscilla and Aquila he wrote, “They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them” (ROMANS 16:1-4). Priscilla and Aquila also made space for their church family to meet in their home (V.5), and mentored new Christians (ACTS 18:24-26). And they did this in a time when the church was under a lot of attacks. Christians like Phoebe, Priscilla and Aquila were examples of being lights for
Jesus in a dark world. Let’s look to follow in their footsteps, even when it costs
us something.
